Learning English at university has been a good experience for me. Before having these classes I had forgotten a lot of things that I used to know when I was at school that I hadn’t used in the recent time, because I didn’t have another English classes in this years. Now I had remembered a lot of things. It has been a good opportunity for me and for my classmates to improve our English speaking and writing. Also I had learned a lot of new vocabulary doing the activities and writing the blog. 

Writing blogs made the classes more dynamic, and I think that it was a good experience to improve my writing skills, and my ability to express myself. Also I could get to know better my classmates reading and commenting their blogs. 

I think that the most important thing for now and for the future is to practice speaking with other people, because in that moment is when you have to understand and be understood, in my opinion the best solution for this problem is to travel! When you are in a place you don’t know and another language is spoken you have to improvise. Nowadays I don’t use English very often, because the truth is that I don’t need to do it in my daily routine. But I think that if you have the desire to improve your English you just need to do it and start speaking with another people so you can practice the most important thing: the pronunciation.

Changes to my study programme

I study journalism at Universidad de Chile since 2013, now I’m in 4^th grade, and I think that actually there are some changes that could be done to my career..

First of all, to the curriculum, because I think that there are some subjects that we should learn and we don’t. For example, I think that we should have an history signature. Also I think that there are some subjects that are very similar to each other, especially in the first years, that we use to read more than once the same book or article.

About the length of the studies, this career could be shorter. At first years of the career we use to have four or five signatures, and as I say sometimes it used to be very similar to each other, so if we had more signatures at semester we could finish before our career.

Another thing that I think that could be change is about the faculty facilities, I think we have a good infrastructure, but there are some defects, for example the cafeteria, since the last year we don’t have a place where we can eat or buy a launch, and on rainy days it’s difficult to find someplace to be confortable.

Also, sometimes we don’t have enough equipment to lease, and is very difficult to make some works and filming.  Also I think that the equipment is a little bit old and not like it should be. But I think it is ok, it works...

I think the teaching methods are right. I like that we use to make practical exercises instead of a lot of writing and theoretical tests, because in this way we really learn how to do the things. We always have to write news, reports, chronicles, different essays, filming for the audiovisual signature and last year we had the radio experience.

I think a good thing of my career is that we share subjects with the students of Cinema and television, so we learn different things and not only those related to Journalism, but obviously related to communications. 

Winter holidays

The truth is that I usually I don’t make plans for the winter holidays because we don’t use to have it! All the last years we hadn’t had our winter holidays at the same time of the other people, like my school friends, because of the student mobilizations.

Despite this, with my school friends we always go to “El Quisco” for 4-5 days. My friend Valentina has a house in that beach, and we always go there in a big group and we have a really good time there, resting and enjoying at the same time. We watch movies, go to the beach, eat tasty food and at night we use to have party too, and it’s very fun and also now it’s like a tradition to go there.

This year the situation is similar: we are in a student strike, so it’s very possible that we don’t have the holidays at the same time of them, but if my friends go to “El Quisco” I’m going there with them, I really like to travel and going to the beach is a very good idea.

Also, I think I’m going to have a big trip to Europe in August. I hope that it results because I really want to go there and met Europe for the first time! Besides I’m going with my boyfriend so it will be very fun! At this time, I’m working a lot to raise money for this trip, because we all know that it’s not cheap.

"A Meal I like to Cook for Myself"

A meal I like to cook for myself is “Gohan”, but I don’t cook it just for me….

With my friends of the school we use to make something that we call “the tradition”. We get together in some house and we cook something tasty and easy. The meal we like the most is “Gohan”, it is like sushi but with all the ingredients mixed together.

We really like to cook Gohan. For this recipe we use rice, avocado, cream cheese, kanikama, mushroom, scallions. First we make the rice at the “sushi way”, then we mix with the other ingredients and finally and the special touch of the soy sauce.

I like to cook, but I have to admit that I don’t do it so often. Another meal that I cook is the breader chicken, I know how to make the sauce for frying the chicken to make it breader. They are like nuggets. I eat this with rice, and I put a little bit of soy sauce, and I really like it....

degree and post-grade studies

Degree and post-grade studies

I still dont know what post-graduate course I would like to take in the future, but I think that is probably that I will take some degree. I would like to travel a lot, so maybe a good option for me will be to make a course abroad, so I can learn different things from what I can learn in Chile, having a broader view of the world.

I would like to study something related to the audiovisual area. A photography course will be good for me, but I can make it here too, ..I don’t know... I think that I’m going to decide next year.

I think that if I’m studying in another country I would like to study part-time,  so I can go out and know different places in my free time, and study the other time, but I would do this just for a while, because I want to be travelling and meting different places. Maybe a better option could be an online course of photography before I’m going and making another degree or a master later, but the truth is that I’m not clear yet of what I really want to do.. so confused right now.

JOB.

My future job:

I have thought a lot about this, but the truth is that I still don’t know exactly where I would like to work when I graduate, because I’m not sure about what my specialty will be.

But something I do know is that I hope I don’t work on a typical office job. I would like to work outdoors, with people and not in front of a computer every day and all day long. That’s one of the reasons why I chose to study journalism, I thought it was a good choice if I wanted to be outdoors and working always with people.

Also, one of the things I would like the most is to travel a lot in my job, so I can meet a lot of countries and different cultures; that would be a very good thing for me: traveling all the time and knowing different places around the world; also I would like to learn different languages while I’m traveling.

At this moment, I’m still not studying any majors, maybe when I graduate of journalism I will, but I don’t know yet what is going to be about. Maybe something related to documentary but I don’t know, so I’m taking my time deciding... 

my pet

I have to say that I am a cat lover, I've always loved cats, since I was a kid.

Nowadays I have two cats in my house, they are very kind and beautiful. One is called Benito, he is the most playful and restless of the house. 

My other cat is called "Cat", I adopted him to a school friend when I was 12 years old, and I really love him. He is a orange cat; he is very affectionate, he always sleeps with me, and in the cold days he is the best company, with his purr. Also, as he is about 11 years old he is a little bit grouchy. 

My cat is very important in my life, in the last years he has always been with me, and now he is one more integrant of my family. We all love him, and Benito too, of course. They use to play together. Without them the house wouldn’t be the same. Once my cat disappeared for 2 days and it was very distressing.

I hope my cat alive for much longer, because when he dies I’ll be very sad, and I know I’m gonna miss him a lot, but I think that there is a lot of time yet. 

                               

What does it mean for me to learn english.

I felt interested in learning English since I started listening to English music, when I was about 11 years old. In that time I wanted to understand the lyrics, so I always looked for the translations of the songs.

Also, at school I always used to enjoy English classes; I had a good teacher in my elementary school, so I used to learn a lot, and I liked it, since I was a kid. 

Nowadays my relationship with English is even more distant. I have not had English classes for a long time,-since I graduated High school - until now.  I can still remember several things but I have lost practice.

But I think that is very important to learn English, learning other languages is a good way to get closer to other cultures, in that way you can get to know them better. I would like to learn someday other languages like Portuguese and French.

holidays in Uruguay

My favorite holidays were in Uruguay. I went there with three friends from school. We went to Uruguay in February 2013, for 21 days. We had a really good time. We met many places and different beaches, but what we liked the most was the beautiful people and good vibes of that little country.

We were backpacking, so we made hitchhiking everyday to get from one place to another. We met a lot of travelers that were making the same and enjoying the same places.

one of my favorites places was a little small town by the beach called Cabo Polonio. That place is recognized because it has no electricity, which makes this place very especial. It makes you enjoy the simple things of life, having fun with your friends, enjoying the sea, and eating a tasty “Milanesa”.

The classical Uruguayan Carnival was on February, so we went to some shows and events. There I saw for the first time a  “Murga”, and I loved it! It is a show that includes music and theater for making a satire of society. 

I hope I can go to Uruguay again, maybe I’ll go the next holidays, because it’s an amazing and very interesting country.

Thailand

The country I would like to visit is Thailand. Thailand is located in Southeast Asia. It has sixty seven million inhabitants and is one of the most populations in the world.

I would to go there because it has a tropical weather, beautiful beaches, and a very interesting and millenary culture. Also, Thailand has a delicious traditional food, fruits and other species unusual in Chile that I would like to know.

Also I’m interested in this country because of the thousand of temples that there are there, where you can learn more about the buddhist religion and culture.

I really would like to go to Asia for a long time. I would like to work and live there for a while, so I can know better how they really live in there. Also having a lot of time will allow me to go to more places and not only the touristics. I hope I can do this when I finish the career.
